The discipline of architecture has influenced me as an individual to be sensitive, receptive and critical of the practice and aided in gaining an understanding of the role and responsibility of the professional in formally shaping the built environment and informally, influencing the lives of those who inhabit it.

As a researcher, I have documented several buildings and urban settlements within the Indian context, including Kumartuli a potter’s colony in north Kolkata. She received a Gold Medal for her research and design work at the undergraduate level for the project titled “ The Potters’ Para : Social Housing and Slum Rehabilitation in North Kolkata”. She has also documented several colonial buildings including religious, educational and public institutions in the Esplanade and Chowringhee areas of central Kolkata. More recently, her field research work including documentation, drawing and writing have been focused on urban parks, lakes and water bodies in central and south Kolkata in the Maidan and Dhakuria regions.

In the city of London, her field research has been focused on religious architectural forms including the Bevis Marks Synagogue, St. Paul’s Cathedral, London and Norwich Cathedral, Norfolk. In addition, she has also volunteered in build workshops at the Architectural Association, Hooke Park which included construction and treatment methods related to timber and metal used extensively in the design of the spatial components.
